WordPress is great for so many reasons. It’s best known for it’s relatively easy to use interface, ability to extend and scale through use of plugins and for it’s search engine optimization appeal. With it’s popularity increasing each and everyday, year after year, it’s not terribly surprising to feel like sometimes there is already a great plugin in the WordPress Repository for free to do something you need on your particular website.

While things have certainly improved over the years, there is still a lot to be said for using some premium(paid) plugins. For one, sometimes there just isn’t a free option available. In other cases, the money spent far outweighs the service and performance that you get for free. The phrase “You Get What You Pay For”, certainly applies in a lot of use cases! Over the years I’ve see a variety of things, from missed opportunities because of no web forms being delivered to complete website crashes.

There are lots of really awesome plugins that I use on almost every website I build. Some are free, some require a some fee, and others are paid premiums. This is list is specifically for the Premium Paid ones thatt i use most often.

Coming Soon by SeedProd
SeedProd is an awesome and super easy way to setup a quick coming soon page for you clients website. Well worth the money in my opinion, although there are certainly other ways to do accomplish the same task. Two great reasons for a coming soon page are that it’s better than the default of almost any host, and well Matt Cutts seems to think it’s a pretty great reason as well. If nothing else it creates a much better experience for customers who are eager to see or be a part of you site before you’re ready!

Genesis Extender

Genesis Extender Plugin by Cobalt Apps Although this plugin isn’t necessarily geared towards beginners, with a little bit of help this is a really great plugin. As with many of these plugins there are alternatives, for example with this one you could just write the code into your theme files. Really I find this particular plugin helpful to speed up the process a little sometimes. I don’t use if for every project, but again for the price it’s certainly worth putting in the Toolbelt in my opinion!

Gravity Forms

Gravity Forms
Gravity Forms is considered to be the best in the industry when it comes to a forms plugin. I can hardly remember the old days when I used to use things like Contact Form 7. In my opinion this is one of the best plugins to purchase. The interface is great and for the large majority of projects and form use cases, this is more than enough. There are some really good alternatives like Ninja Forms(which has premium addons), but even if you use both(for different projects) it’s still well worth the money in my opinion. I’m happy to pay for Gravity Forms year after year!

BackupBuddy

BackupBuddy from ithemes is another example of a must have for me and another well worth the cost year after year. It’s not only great for running backups for your websites or client sites, but it’s also a great tool for moving WordPress websites, which can be tedious process for any designer/developer who’s familiar with that process. I’m fairly certain that’s everyones least favorite part of any project!

Migrate DB Pro WordPress
Migrate DB Pro is a fantastic tool for designer and developers alike. It’s a great way to keep you live and local sites in sync. The addition of the media manager is also a huge bonus. WP Migrate DB Pro is also great for clients using managed WP Hosting like WPEngine, where backup buddy ins’t an option for moving a website to a live server. WP Migrate DB Pro also saves from the many headaches involved of the manual site migration process.

FaceWP
Faceted Search for WordPress helps designers, developers and users add interactive filtering to their eCommerce sites, resources libraries, search pages, directories and more. It’s a really need plugin and makes life a lot easier when developing these types of sites. Can’t beat the value and again I highly recommend it. It also works well with SearchWP(another great paid plugin) and can really help boost a sites search performance far beyond the capabilities of the built-in WP search function.
